Today I purchased the RocketFish Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. Seems to be working fine so far. I would have gone for the HDMI adapter but I currently have my DirecTV connected to the LCD through that port so I had to go with VGA. We'll see if saving $5 over the Apple-branded version will be worth it. Anyone else tried this and had good results?
So far with the help of Apple support I was able to redeem my Lion credit throught the Mac App Store. The install went flawlessly, and I really like the small touches so far of the latest OS. I also set up one of my 250GB USB hard drives to run as my Time Machine back-up. I originally planned to use my NAS for this but decided with all the music, movies and tv shows we've put on it over the last year it was better off working as my multimedia server rather than back-up server too.
I had promised to post the specs on the system. Better do that now before I forget. Remember the main purpose for the machine is to have a portable computer that is capable of handling standard web design usage with a little bit of graphics work. My desktop machine has been set up to be my graphics powerhouse so that explains why this is not the top of the line Macbook Pro.
- Processor: 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i5
- Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (soon to be upgraded to 8 GB)
- Graphics: Standard Intel HD 3000 w/ 384 MB VRAM (the one part I wish was better)
- Hard Drive: 500GB SATA (next Macbook will be SSD)
- OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7
Tomorrow @ 8:00PM I will be hosting another episode of The Spec Sheet podcast with Michael Vandeven so be sure to tune in to hear that at the Radio Trainwreck Website. I always have fun doing the show and love when we get callers to discuss topics. I finally have my audio setup in a configuration that should make it more comfortable and easy to do live video. If that works out then I will start promoting the USTREAM channel I have set up for the show. Not that you guys really want to watch me talking but it might be funny, which is what makes it worthwhile.
Next time I will update more on the status of the switch to OS X and also a topic that a lot of you came to this site in the first place for: my problems with food. I have not touched upon it for a while since I was still adjusting to the move, etc so its time to get back to it.
Until then! Curtis
